About Us______________________________________________________

Tarbeary Kennels is.....

Well to start, I am NOT a kennel at all. Tarbeary Kennels is made up of me and my 14 dogs....10 Newfoundlands, 1 Golden Retriever, and my newest addition, my Neapolitan Mastiff.

I am an all-breed obedience instructor and an AKC CGC (Canine Good Citizen) test evaluator. I teach about 8 hours a week; the rest of my time is spent at home with my dogs. I also do some handling for AKC conformation and obedience shows, both my own dogs and for the public.

I have four male Newfoundlands, Muddy Waters, Martin, Luda, and my now retired and neutered male, Smooch, as well as nine females, Koko, who is now retired and spayed, her daughter Molli, also retired, Maybell (Molli's half-sister), Lucky, Tandy (retired), Kaylee, Gabby, Tala, a Koko daughter from her last litter with CH. Unbelievably Bydand de l'Iliade et l'Odyssee, CGC (France), "Boo Bear", Icsis, a Hamilton daughter from a litter he sired with a lovely bitch, Four Wind Bear's All you Need Is Love (Germany), "Love", from Ciara Moon Newfoundlands in New Hampshire, co-owned by Kathy Guererro in Chester, SC, and Ida, a Gabby daughter from her litter sired by Martin.

I own one Golden Retriever...Biscuit who is now 9; he was retired and neutered in March of 2003, but will stay on here forever with me as my very much loved pet, and I now own one Neapolitan Mastiff...Draco. He was added in the Fall of 2006 and has been a fun and exciting addition to my dog family. He was shown in April 2007 at the Neapolitan Mastiff National Specialty. He won 2nd place in the 12-18 month class and 4th place in the 12-18 month class in Sweepstakes. I was thrilled and look forward to seeing what he does in the coming months!

As for my Newfoundlands....I have several pointed in the AKC conformation ring. Maybell, Hamilton, and Cal have all finished their AKC Championships, with Gabby, Martin, and Icsis just a major each shy. Lucky is also pointed and will continue to work towards finishing her Championship this year. Luda and Ida will also be entering the ring in the coming months.

All of my dogs are obedience trained and well socialized. Smooch and Lucky received AKC CGC (Canine Good Citizen) titles in September 2003 and have since gone on to earn TDI (Therapy Dogs International) titles. Koko and Molli also earned their AKC CGC titles in 2004. They too will be TDI testing this year. The Pet Therapy programs benefit so many by blessing others with the unbelievable amount love and understanding so many pets have to offer; I am thrilled for me and my dogs to be a part of such a special group of volunteers. Koko, Smooch, Lucky and I are a part of the Northeast Medical Center's Pet Therapy Program, and can be seen visiting at our local hospital each week. Smooch and Lucky are also Therapy dogs with our local Hospice group.

I also have dogs trained in various other areas. All of my dogs love water, Koko, Smooch, Lucky and Biscuit have all worked over the past several Summers on water work exercises in preparation for testing for their WD (Water Dog) titles. All of the dogs love to run, play, and have a good time splashing around in the lake, pool, or even a big puddle. I have worked on agility with quite a few as well, and yes, you heard me correctly, agility. My Newfs are not "couch potatoes". They are healthy active dogs who love to run and play. I also have dogs trained to cart and track.

I strive to breed healthy, sound, both in mind and in body, as well as versatile puppies. Pups I have bred have become AKC Champions with still many others pointed in the show ring. They have been taught to do draft work, to do water rescue training, and quite a few have received their AKC CGC titles as well as TDI titles. I am very proud of all of my past pups.

All of my dogs are PennHIP/ OFA certified. All of my Newfoundlands are Cystinuria DNA tested, OFA thyroid Normal, CERF'd, OFA cardiac Normal by a cardiologist, OFA Patellas Normal, OFA Elbows and most of my Newfoundlands have been screened for vWD DNA as well. All of my puppies are guaranteed for 1 year for hereditary and congenital defects. All pups are vet checked and vaccinated by a vet and their hearts are cleared for SAS before leaving Tarbeary Kennels.

I feed a diet consisting of raw meat and bones, as well as fresh and cooked fruits and vegetables, and a holistic dry kibble, Blackwoods 5000, Catfish and Potato formula. I am very pleased with the way my dogs and puppies grow and mature on this diet. I send each puppy home with a bag of Blackwoods 5000 and highly recommend that they remain on the diet I have started them on here. My dogs do well year round with skin, coat, size, and development. I have never had any problems with hot spots, skin allergies, etc. The dogs grow at a good rate and maintain a healthy size and coat year round.

I exercise all of the dogs...all are leash trained and walk the side walked streets of Historic Downtown Concord with me daily....

I am located NOT on a farm but on a cul de sac in the heart of Historic Downtown Concord, NC. My dogs are not kenneled breeding stock, but my beloved pets....none of the dogs are kenneled. All of my boys live inside together as well as 3 of my girls. All of the dogs are house trained and crate trained and are invited in accordingly. They are not given away or sold as they retire but instead live their lives out here with me as my pets, just as they spent their younger days.

I sell puppies to both pet and show homes and offer breeder support for the life of the dog. I encourage anyone considering adding either of these great breeds into their families to come visit with me and my dogs first. Each of my dogs are valued and much loved members of my family and that is what I want your new puppy to be to you as well.
